The idea for MediRapp and our product EchoRapp originally came from founder Dr. Schlomo Aschkenasy, a distinguished cardiologist based in Zurich. Experiencing the time-consuming and highly manual nature of echocardiography, he realized the potential for digitalization to greatly benefit this field. He recognized that the know-how intensive nature of cardiology, combined with the need to 1) manually measure and review growing volumes of diagnostic data while 2) tracking and applying frequently changing guidelines, increased the risk of errors in the interpretive workflow of heart echos.
Dr. Aschkenasy began developing a software solution about nine years ago to streamline, automate and improve the quality of the echocardiography process. Having worked as a professional programmer before and maintained these skills, he started to develop a software for himself. Over time, the software was continuously improved and developed into what is now EchoRapp. Seeing the very high interest from fellow cardiologists both in Switzerland and internationally, Dr. Aschkenasy decided to set up a dedicated team to make the software available to all and help to transform cardiology for the better. This marked the start of our company, MediRapp.
MediRapp was founded two years ago and is currently led by its founder and CMO/interim CTO, Dr. Schlomo Aschkenasy. The team also includes CEO Paola Daniore, full-time software developer Goran Lazarov, and regulatory affairs officer Dieduonné Mbarga. Together, we are developing the software EchoRapp to make the interpretation of echocardiography studies smarter, more accurate and more efficient. The current version of EchoRapp supports cardiologists in: 1) automating measurements of echos acquired from ultrasound machines (vendor neutral), 2) making comprehensive diagnoses of heart conditions based on current guidelines and research, and 3) generating full-text reports with the results. In a typical echocardiography workflow, around 15 minutes are spent on image acquisition, while the interpretive workflow after image acquisition can take up to 45 minutes. EchoRapp reduces the interpretive workflow time to as little as 15 minutes, allowing cardiologists to reach their full diagnostic potential while still devoting more time to their patients.
To date, EchoRapp has one of the most rigorous solutions to apply evidence-based diagnostic criteria from international cardiology guidelines and peer-reviewed studies. Through our collaboration with ZHAW, we are now working to complement these capabilities by automatically extracting quantitative measures from ultrasound imaging data, improving sensitivity to detect rare and early conditions, and generating comprehensive full-text reports based on large language modeling. Following our product improvements from our Hirslanden pilot and the CE Mark we received in May 2025, EchoRapp is ready to make high-quality echocardiography accessible to every cardiologist, to transform care for patients everywhere.
